As many healthcare workers know, hearing and engaging with complex and disturbing stories can lead to vicarious trauma. Vicarious trauma involves transforming a worker\u2019s inner experience and worldview. The concept of vicarious resilience (coined by researchers Hernandez, Gangsei and Enstrom in 2007) demonstrates that the worker\u2019s transformation may also be a healing experience. Workers may experience both vicarious trauma and vicarious resilience at the same time. We will consider how to mitigate the impacts of vicarious trauma.
