{"id":330,"date":"2023-03-02T23:26:28","date_gmt":"2023-03-03T07:26:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/safecarebc.ca\/?post_type=safetytopic&#038;p=330"},"modified":"2023-08-11T13:11:03","modified_gmt":"2023-08-11T20:11:03","slug":"working-alone","status":"publish","type":"safetytopic","link":"https:\/\/scbcdev.safecarebc.ca\/?safetytopic=working-alone","title":{"rendered":"Working Alone"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Preventing hazards relating to working alone<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Do the following before arriving at the client\u2019s home:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Scan the area, the neighbourhood and the entrance to the client\u2019s home<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If no concerns are identified, approach the client\u2019s home<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If concerns are identified, go to a safe location and report to your supervisor<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once inside the client\u2019s home<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Observe the client and the behaviour of any other occupant<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Continue to assess both the client and the home environment as you do your work<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If no concerns are identified, continue to do your work<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If concerns are identified, consider the risk to yourself<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you are unable to reduce the risk and feel threatened, leave and report to your supervisor<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Are you prepared?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before entering the client\u2019s home<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>My supervisor has provided me with the check-in procedure for working alone<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I have checked the area for hazards<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I have completed the check-in procedure<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I am alert and aware of my surrounding<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I am wearing practical footwear that will allow me to leave quickly if necessary<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I have read the client\u2019s care plan<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I have a mobile phone on, or near me, while I am working so that I can call for help if needed<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I have a clear route that I can take if I need to leave quickly<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I know what to do if I feel threatened or unsafe<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I know to contact my supervisor immediately if it is unsafe for me to proceed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When working alone, you may face a risk of violence, as the care you are providing may cause a client to feel nervous or agitated.
