Looking at your phone or reading paperwork can cause you to trip<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wear footwear that has a soft rubber sole, allowing for good traction<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use walkways that are well-lit and have been cleared and salted, as shortcuts over snow piles can lead to a fall<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Don\u2019t carry too much; arms and hands can be used for balance and support in the case of a fall<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use handrails when climbing stairs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you find that it is unsafe to enter the home, don\u2019t go in and report unsafe conditions to your supervisor<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Are you prepared?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>I am wearing appropriate footwear<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I have checked to ensure there is good lighting outside and inside the home<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I have checked walkways and stairs to ensure that they are<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>in good repair and clear of debris<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I will keep my work area tidy to eliminate slip and trip hazards<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I will avoid multi-tasking and holding large objects so that I can see where I am going<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I will report unsafe conditions if I see them<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I know what to do if I am injured<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Slips, trips and falls are the second most common injury for home and community health workers.
