Your role in workplace safety<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Joint Occupational Health and Safety (JOHS) Committee plays a vital role in promoting workplace health and safety. It is the forum where worker and employer representatives consult on safety issues, make recommendations to improve the Occupational Health and Safety program, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In workplaces where a committee isn't required, a Worker Health and Safety Representative performs the same essential duties and functions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

How the committee works<\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A JOHS committee consists of both employer and worker representatives, with at least half of the members being worker representatives. The committee meets monthly to discuss health and safety issues, and meeting minutes are posted in the workplace\u2014on the bulletin board or website\u2014for all staff to review. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
