This is a tool for care workers to ensure that they are providing safe, person-directed care through a quick at-the-bedside&nbsp;assessment. Seniors\u2019 conditions or behaviours often change quickly and this tool is designed to help frontline staff assess each&nbsp;situation before providing care and to respond appropriately. The Point of Care Assessment has four areas that staff check before proceeding with the intended task, called a safety TSEK (pronounced \u201cCheck\u201d):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Task:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Is the ADL and care plan updated?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Is it the right time for the senior?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do I need assistance or further understanding of my duties as a care provider?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Staff\/Supplies:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Have I checked the care plan and ADL?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Am I competent to do the task?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do I need further training?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Are my supplies readily available?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Is my equipment functional?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Environment:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Is there enough privacy for the elder to do my work?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Is the room clutter-free and safe for me to do my work?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Is the area free of hazards?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do I know the procedure and how to report a hazard?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Kinetics:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Do I have the proper body mechanic skills?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do I know when to stop when it is not safe for me and the seniors?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is a tool for care workers to ensure that they are providing safe, person-directed care through a quick at-the-bedside assessment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":2031,"template":"","tags":[],"audience":[118],"topic":[125],"class_list":["post-2029","safety-innovation","type-safety-innovation","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","audience-audience","topic-point-of-care-assessment"],"acf":[],"publishpress_future_workflow_manual_trigger":{"enabledWorkflows":[]},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/scbcdev.safecarebc.ca\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/safety-innovation\/2029","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/scbcdev.safecarebc.ca\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/safety-innovation"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/scbcdev.safecarebc.ca\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/safety-innovation"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/scbcdev.safecarebc.ca\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/media\/2031"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/scbcdev.safecarebc.ca\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=2029"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/scbcdev.safecarebc.ca\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=2029"},{"taxonomy":"audience","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/scbcdev.safecarebc.ca\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Faudience&post=2029"},{"taxonomy":"topic","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/scbcdev.safecarebc.ca\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftopic&post=2029"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
