{"id":891,"date":"2023-01-26T11:00:00","date_gmt":"2023-01-26T19:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/safecarebc.ca\/?p=891"},"modified":"2023-06-27T12:28:36","modified_gmt":"2023-06-27T19:28:36","slug":"safety-den-2021-winner-castleview-care-centre","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/scbcdev.safecarebc.ca\/?p=891","title":{"rendered":"Safety Den 2021 Winner \u2013 Castleview Care Centre"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The sixth Safety Den, presented by SafeCare BC, is a<em>&nbsp;Dragon\u2019s Den-style<\/em>&nbsp;competition, where contestants pitch their innovative ideas to reduce workplace injuries and improve the lives of those in care. Out of the seventeen health care organizations who submitted to Safety Den\u2014a record number for the competition\u2014it was Castlegar\u2019s Castleview Care Centre that impressed the most.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The winning idea, called&nbsp;<em>The Fears and Solutions&nbsp;<\/em>initiative is about starting a dialogue. The care home\u2019s staff and students are asked two questions: \u201cwhat are you afraid of?\u201d and \u201cwhat are you going to about it?\u201d By writing their answers to each of the questions on a poster, staff work together to come up with solutions to common fears. A proactive, welcoming environment is formed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The competition\u2019s judges\u2014called Safety Dragons\u2014loved the idea for how simple it is to implement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe are excited to be recognized by SafeCare BC, because it reinforces our practices and the fact that we work hard everyday to keep the people at Castleview safe, both the staff and those who live here,\u201d says Shannon Kenning, administrator, Castleview Care Centre. \u201cOur&nbsp;<em>Fears and Solutions<\/em>&nbsp;initiative is an approach that encourages honesty and accountability with our staff and when we are honest and vulnerable about the things that we\u2019re fearful of we can work through it together and become a stronger team.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instead of a live audience of more than 200, this year\u2019s pandemic-friendly event was a digital experience, where the finalists pitched their health and safety idea to our judges\u2014the aforementioned Safety Dragons.
