{"id":4455,"date":"2024-06-04T15:47:37","date_gmt":"2024-06-04T22:47:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/safecarebc.ca\/?p=4455"},"modified":"2024-06-04T15:47:39","modified_gmt":"2024-06-04T22:47:39","slug":"vancouver-care-home-takes-home-top-prize-in-the-eighth-annual-safety-den-event","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/scbcdev.safecarebc.ca\/?p=4455","title":{"rendered":"Vancouver care home takes home top prize in the eighth annual Safety Den event"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Burnaby \u2013 With a standing-room only crowd of more than 200, Vancouver-based Louis Brier Home and Hospital took home the top prize in SafeCare BC\u2019s Dragon\u2019s Den-style competition, with its innovative <em>Worker Health and Safety Dashboard<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Safety Den brings the health sector together to showcase ideas and solutions to some of the most pressing health and safety challenges faced by workers. This year, 17 submissions were received, which were narrowed to three finalists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe created a prototype that keeps workers informed about workplace hazards and incidents,\u201d says Loren Tisdelle, Director of Human Resources at Louis Brier. \u201cWhen staff come to work, they may not realize what incidents are happening around them.\u201d&nbsp; The dashboard presents real data in an easy-to-understand manner and can be accessed on any device. \u201cArmed with insight, workers can better anticipate risks and prevent work-related incidents.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tisdelle adds the $2,000 prize will be invested into developing the app, so it can be implemented not only at Louis Brier, but also available for other care organizations around the province to use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Staffing shortages and lack of resources are among the biggest barriers for healthcare organizations. To combat this, SafeCare BC highlights innovative ideas and encourages the sharing of those ideas through its annual Safety Den event. Already, this year\u2019s finalists have expressed interest in each other\u2019s ideas, and introducing them in their own organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWorkplace injuries in the continuing care sector are of concern, and while we know many organizations are doing great things, we need to encourage the sharing of these ideas, so more people can benefit,\u201d says Saleema Dhalla, SafeCare BC CEO. \u201cWe host Safety Den to put a spotlight on the innovative approaches to dealing with workplace health and safety issues.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SafeCare BC hosts Safety Den at the BC Care Providers annual conference. This year\u2019s conference was attended by over 600 individuals.
