{"id":3201,"date":"2024-01-24T10:53:45","date_gmt":"2024-01-24T18:53:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/safecarebc.ca\/?p=3201"},"modified":"2024-01-26T11:05:03","modified_gmt":"2024-01-26T19:05:03","slug":"changes-to-worksafebcs-first-aid-requirements","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/scbcdev.safecarebc.ca\/?p=3201","title":{"rendered":"Changes to WorkSafeBC's first aid requirements"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Amendments to WorkSafeBC\u2019s Part 3, Rights and Responsibilities, in the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation (OHSR) will be effective November 1, 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some changes include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A written workplace assessment to determine the appropriate level of first aid equipment, supplies, facilities, first aid attendants, services and transportation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Written first aid procedures, including how an injured worker will be accessed and transported if any barriers to providing first aid exist.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>First aid drills must be conducted annually to test the written procedures.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The current Schedule 3-A will be completely replaced with a new one based on minimum first aid requirements on four classes of workplace remoteness and accessibility.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Certification for first aid attendants will be updated from a level 1, 2 and 3 certificate to a basic, intermediate, and advanced certificate.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Criteria for dressing stations and first aid rooms (where required) have been included.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Levels of first aid will be determined by the number of workers per shift, how remote and accessible the workplace is for ambulance personnel, and the workplace hazard rating.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>*WorkSafeBC defines long-term care and community health support services first aid requirements as a low hazard rating.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While the related guidelines are not yet developed, find <a href=\"https:\/\/www.worksafebc.com\/en\/health-safety\/create-manage\/first-aid-requirements\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">additional information on first aid requirements<\/a> online. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you have questions about the requirements, contact Jennifer Derksen at\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:JDerksen@safecarebc.ca\">JDerksen@safecarebc.ca<\/a>\u00a0or 604-630-5572 ext. 238.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Amendments to WorkSafeBC\u2019s Part 3, Rights and Responsibilities, in the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation (OHSR) will be effective November 1, 2024.
