A new video produced by SafeCare BC and the Alzheimer Society of B.C. explores the challenges and successes of caring for people living with dementia, with the aim of fostering more understanding between the two groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe are going to assist the person, but we\u2019re going to do it as a team,\u201d says Bryan, a care aide working in a long-term care home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Dementia Care Teams: Families and Continuing Care Providers Working Together\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/VxDopCVswmg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Just as each person receiving care is unique, so is each relationship between families and their continuing care providers. The video, entitled \u201cDementia care teams: Families and continuing care providers working together,\u201d offers unfiltered discussion on how these differing perspectives can either yield a positive working relationship or a challenging one for both parties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For families, the process can be just as challenging and often filled with difficult feelings of grief, guilt and loneliness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI knew that I was having to let go of being her caregiver,\u201d says Jory, a caregiver for his wife, who lived with dementia. \u201cI had to hold her care loosely in my hands.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Both SafeCare and the Alzheimer Society of B.C. believe that the most successful care teams are teams of people who develop strong relationships based on clear communication and mutual respect.
